Overview
Bodywork
Black on green interior
These pictures depict the stages of laying down the first layers of paint and then coming back in and giving the paint gloss with a clear coat. This car was originally black and the owner wanted to respect its history.
Modifications to the door jambs had to be made so that the doors closed properly without damaging the corners. They were ground down to match the curvature of the doors. One of the challenges with these early cars is getting the doors to close properly with the right amount of force and retaining a consistent door-gap measurement.
Interior
As for the interior, the car was in great condition. So much so that we ended up keeping the carpet that was already in the car and just cleaned it. The rubber floor mat was cracking, so we replaced it. The seats were reupholstered in a deep green color. The steering wheel that arrived with the car was kept the same.
Completion
To celebrate its completion, this 356A was shown at the McPherson College of Restoration's car show in McPherson, Kansas. It won second place in its class.
